 A Russian Background

In 1986 the offspring of a secret military Soviet project finally emerged into the public domain after nearly 20 years of development behind closed doors. One of the results of work created by a leading Russian Radio-Engineering Institute was a device which is beginning to alter dramatically the way healthcare is delivered in Russia. S.C.E.N.A.R. is an Acronym for Self Controlled Energo-Neuro-Adaptive Regulation.

Russian scientists were asked to devise a way of treating health problems during space flights because, with all urine recycled as drinking water, taking drugs was out of the question. What they came up with was a scanning system that can detect and treat health problems by working the body's energy systems - by using a hand-held machine that looks just like Dr. McCoy's. The Russians claim that the device has been 80% successful in treating cases of irritable bowel syndrome, back pain, arthritis, strokes, post-surgical complications, enlarged prostate, skin complaints, angina and poor circulation. Dr. Keith Scott-Mumby, an allergy physician, was one of the first doctors in the UK to be trained to use the S.C.E.N.A.R.

"More than 2000 years ago, Chinese healers realized that the human body has numerous energy meridians. Disease occurs when there is a blockage of these channels, and when acupuncture needles are placed into various points, a flow of healing energy is released", he says. "The S.C.E.N.A.R. takes this concept one stage further - it has sensitive onboard software and can locate trouble spots with ease." Every cell emits a signal, and when we become ill or injured, the damaged cells emit a disharmonic frequency. The S.C.E.N.A.R. works by locating negative energy signals and modifying them via the neural pathways attached to the spine. The device is applied directly to the skin, in the relevant area. A diagnostic signal is first sent out to locate the areas needing treatment. The machine is then set to treatment mode and begins pulsing correctional signals. A typical treatment last about half an hour and patients feel only a slight tingling sensation. Generally, about six treatments are recommended.

Dr. Scott-Mumby is the first to admit that S.C.E.N.A.R. is not a miracle cure. "S.C.E.N.A.R. does have positive effects on many conditions, but it does not work in every case," he says. "Also, if a person enjoys relief after several treatments, but continues eating a poor diet, doing little or no exercise and so on, their condition may return." That is why we have taken a systemic approach to disease, incorporating each of the enclosed procedures. Treating the person's constitution versus his symptom makes a lot more sense in the up and coming new approach to curative therapy versus the ever-present standard "treatment". Treatment or "muting the body", only lets you degenerate in peace. "You don't feel compelled to do anything about your problems if you can't feel a thing".

I have been primarily involved in Equine and Large animal practice with Scenar, although I have treated a number of small animals with great success. I have been using Skenar on a regular basis since December 1998.

The Russian experience of Scenar is largely human orientated. As far as we know there are no Veterinarians using Scenar (other than myself) although there have been anecdotal reports of Scenar therapists treating a few cats and dogs. In one such reported case an aged cat with kidney stones which was regarded as a poor anaesthetic risk was successfully treated using Scenar with just 2 treatments. The Russians state that good effects are obtained using the paws, ears, hairless areas of the belly and mucosal surfaces to interface with the Scenar. Animals may be unsure of the Scenar for the first treatment, although subsequent treatments are welcomed on the whole.

The comb probe can also be used to treat areas covered in fur. Horses: I have mostly used Scenar for musculo-skeletal problems to very good effect. Acute injuries respond remarkably quickly (3 –5 treatments). Chronic injuries such as tendon thickening respond well in about 5 – 10 treatments and normal function will frequently return although the tendon itself may still remain slightly thickened. Conditions which have responded well include colic, scouring, cuts, torn gastrocnemius tendon, iliac thrombosis, sesamoid fracture, sore backs, persistent lameness of unknown origin. Secondary effects have been found as a result of  treatment which have included cessation of wind-sucking, disappearance of a sweat patch which recurred after exercise over the area of an old haematoma, corneal opacity.

S.C.E.N.A.R. DEVICE How does it work?

In embryology, we know that within the Ectoderm, there is an outermost layer of cells that develop and differentiate into skin, nails, hair and the Nervous System. Since the nervous system and the skin play a major role in regulating the body as a whole, it is not unreasonable to consider being able to regulate the body’s systemic functions by influencing the skin.

The brain and local neural reflexes then are continuously monitoring ever-changing stimuli coming from the outside via the skin. It would appear that these stimuli are continuous and infinitely variable as one can imagine. “Dynamic” regulation or “Homeostasis” are the terms used when the body is able to maintain itself within its own needed narrow margins. The failure to maintain “Homeostasis” would be the inevitable cause of disease. This is the reason why our company is called “Homeostasis”. The S.C.E.N.A.R. runs on a single nine-volt battery and is a non-invasive regulator of body functions. The aim is to stimulate the body to undertake its own self-recovery program by using its own internal pharmacy of neuropeptides. This allows the body to choose the most appropriate chemical combination for each unique case.
