What is your dog’s constitution and what can make it sick!
Why "Constitution" Particular breeds of animal are known to be predisposed to particular behavior. Dogs of a particular "manmade " breed will tend to have more of some of the basic dog characteristics and less of others, but they will not have any characteristics that are outside other realms of dog hood. Similarly they will tend to display more of one kind of behavior than of another, but they will still be capable of all types of behavior that are recognizably doggy. E.g. Some cocker spaniels exhibit behavior that is graphically described by its name: the Jekyll and Hyde syndrome dependant on the color of their coat. Rottweilers and Dobermans are other breeds that can become aggressive for no apparent reason. These seem to be genetic problems. What it means to us, in practice, is that in treating animals we are entitled to consider the breed in the first instance, but it should only be as a guide to the first avenue of exploration.. Members of a particular breed might need any of the remedies at different times. All we can say of notoriously dominant breed such as Rottweilers, bull terriers, Akitas, chows and schnauzers is that they tend to be dominant and so, on average, will be more like to be Wood type or Fire type constitutions. But there will be many exceptions to this tendency. You can’t generalize with the remedies and, just like people; animals should always be treated as individuals and not as groups. Fearful Dogs Fear is a learned behaviour, whereas dominance aggression has a genetic basis. Aggression caused by fear is far more common than offensive aggression, and dogs who lack self-confidence or are fearful may well turn out to be biters. Other animals may be afraid of thunderstorms. Some may be affected by unknown, nameless fears. Another kind of fear entirely is the fear and worry that something will happen to a loved one. Some dogs sit glued to the windowpane, waiting for its human to return and become anxious when he or she is only a few minutes late. Where there are two animals, one dominant and the other the subordinate, there may be fear on the part of the subordinate. Fear in dogs can manifest as overexcitement and restlessness. This might take the form of barking, or insistence on contact with the owner or, in extreme cases, in urination and defecation. Signs of fear in dogs include the tail between the legs, crouching down, ears flattened back on the skull; and sometimes the body language associated with fear in dogs shows a mix that gives more information. In some cases, fear itself provokes aggression. Sad Dogs A burst of hormones can result in depressive behavior among bitches that can last around two months. This may manifest itself by gloomy, motiveless depression. Homesickness or living in the past. Obsessive Dogs Excessive grooming or hair pulling or licking of forelegs over and over again
until the skin literally breaks down. Anxious Dogs Inappropriate urination may be caused by anxiety. Aggressive Dogs Straightforward authoritativeness and domineering Male dogs are more likely to be aggressive with other dogs and in defense of territory. They are marginally more likely to be playful and indulge in destructive behavior and to be aggressive with children. A specific form of aggression is linked particularly to female dogs at particular times in their fertility cycle. This is territorial or protective aggression. Disease begins in the Energy Field Living cells or cells from all living creatures are made up of a large structure of interactive molecules. Within the living cell, electron flow create small magnetic fields. The health and vitality of an animal or a person is reflected in the flow of energy in their cellular body. The overall flow in the body creates a larger magnetic field surrounding it. This field has a number of smaller modulated fields inside it. These fields relate to the functions of the internal organs and glands. Thus this mirror image of the body, sometimes called the etheric double, or aura will be affected by disease before the physical body will. Actually, energy moves from the physical/etheric double to the emotional to the mental to the spiritual body. It also moves in the opposite direction in the same order: from the spiritual to the mental to the emotional to the etheric double and finally into the physical animal’s body. Homeopathic remedies work on the nearest nonphysical level – the etheric double – as well as on the emotional and mental bodies. 5-Element Therapeutic Homeopathic remedies are triple dynamized and work on all levels as well as the physical level. This permits quick action even for acute traumas. What is homoeopathy? Homoeopathy has been in use since the time of Hippocrates, but as we know it today, was evolved by a German scholar and chemist over 200 years ago when he became increasingly disillusioned with the "medicine" of the time. By experimenting on himself, Samuel Hahnemann discovered that by taking minute doses of Cinchona bark (from which Quinine is derived) he could produce the same symptoms that were caused by Malaria. Hahnemann found that if similar doses were given to patients suffering from Malaria they were found to recover. Hahnemann went on to test many other substances in the same way, drawing up a "Materia Medica" of homoeopathic remedies and the symptoms with which they became associated. These tests were called "provings" and encompassed substances derived from plant, animal and mineral origins. The results suggested to Hahnemann that by administering a micro dose of a substance that mimicked a disease, the body’s own defenses were roused into action. Hence the idea that "like may be cured by like". Indeed, the efficacy of the drug appeared enhanced by extreme dilution and this also eradicated harmful side effects. Because of the extreme dilution homoeopathy is a very safe and natural way to tackle problems which our pets may suffer from, as it promotes good health by the body’s own powers of self regulation and self healing. Homoeopathy has been found to be very successful when used on domestic and farm animals as increasing media attention has shown. It has also had good results in long-term or chronic conditions that have not responded to any other sort of treatment. To give your animal homoeopathic remedies is to be assured in the knowledge that it is safe, free from side effects and environmentally friendly. Preparation of remedies Dr. Hahnemann found that diluting them increased the effectiveness of the substances he used. In fact he found that the greater the dilution the better the remedy. Thus homoeopathic remedies are prepared by diluting a "mother tincture" which is an extract prepared from the substance concerned e.g. Arnica or Sulphur. The dilution is repeated as many times as specified, for example, a 6c potency is diluted 6 times by a factor of 100. With each dilution the mixture is shaken vigorously, or "succussed" which gives potency to the remedy. This is an important part of the preparation as it is thought to release the "energy" contained within the material used. Sugar based tablets, pills or powders are then impregnated wit the diluted remedy and again succussed. Selecting the remedy For some longstanding or recurrent problems you may find that more than one remedy is identified for use. When ill, animals like people, suffer not only from the classic symptoms of a disease, but also from other symptoms, which are unique to each individual. A homoeopathic remedy is selected to match the individual’s response to an illness. This is why two animals suffering from the same problem may require different remedies. 5-Element Therapeutics uses the time tested Traditional Chinese Medicine’s "Law of the 5 Elements" to help pinpoint the animal’s constitution. As in human’s, discovering the cause rather than the effect permits us to be able to treat the animal and not the disease. If the troubling emotion is a mood of the moment or a passing state of mind, then the remedies we select will usually enable us to overcome the negativity and regain a positive outlook quite quickly. But if the problem is one of greater substance, one which as become a deep-seated issue, and has grown with time, then we need to ensure that we select not only those remedies which address the moods which are uppermost in our minds, but also the remedy for our basic personality, that is, our type remedy or better yet "constitutional" remedy. How to give homoeopathic remedies It is preferable to give homoeopathic remedies to your pet between meals without food, added to their drinking water. If, however, this proves difficult the tables or pellets can be given with a small piece of food or crushed between two clean teaspoons and the powder either tipped onto the tongue, or added to water. You should try to handle the remedy as little as possible but if you do, make sure your hands are clean and dry. How to store homoeopathic remedies The tables should remain in the bottle in which they were supplied. The container should be kept in a dry place away from sunlight and strong smells. Dosage For acute or sudden onset of symptoms; The selected remedy should be given at a rate of 15 drops every hour for up to ten doses, then 15 drops every twelve hours for two to three days. In the case of special single remedies In cases where an immediate response is required such as an accident, 1 tablet or 3 pellets may be given every 15 minutes for up to 6 doses. This dose rate may also be used in anticipation of emotionally traumatic even such as a thunderstorm, show fright, a change of environment or a trip to the vet. For long-standing or chronic conditions Give one tablet or three pellets three times a day for fourteen days and repeat if symptoms recur. As soon as there is any improvement in the animals’ condition the remedy may be reduced or stopped. If there has been no response after two to three weeks an alternative remedy may be required.
